Beginning mid-July, a week-long Green Version Battle Festival is going to
be held through ICQ.  In total, 32 players will compete over seven days to
see who truly is the greatest trainer out there.

The 32 contestants will be divided into four teams:
>> THE ROYAL SLOTHIAN FORCES (Team 1)
>> DA EVOLUTION MEN (Team 2)
>> TEAM ROCKET (Team 3)
>> THE TREE DEFENSE ALLIANCE (Team 4)

The 7-day setup is quite complex, and it is not necessary to understand
how it all works to participate.  However, here is a detailed explanation
for the curious:

The first four days will consist of preliminary matches.  Each team must
win at least one of the preliminary matches in order to move on.  On each
day, two players from each team will compete in a six-battle tournament to
see which team will be able to send players to the later matches.
Battle #1: Team 1 Player A VS. Team 2 Player A
Battle #2: Team 3 Player A VS. Team 4 Player A
Battle #3: Winner of Battle #1 VS. Winner of Battle #2
Battle #4: Team 1 Player B VS. Team 2 Player B
Battle #5: Team 3 Player B VS. Team 4 Player B
Battle #6: Winner of Battle #4 VS. Winner of Battle #5

The two winners will be able to advance to the next round, which for teams
1 and 2 will take place on day 5, and for teams 3 and 4 will take place on
day 6.

Note that over the four-day period, it is possible for a team to send
anywhere from zero to eight of its players on to the next round.  If one
team wins all eight preliminary matches, then that team has already won
the entire tournament, and the players will proceed to battle each other
on day 7.  Obviously, the more players who get sent to the next round, the
better the chances are for their team to win.  If no players manage to win
a preliminary match for their team, then that team will be eliminated.

The next two days are the semifinals.  Day 5 will pit all of Team 1's
remaining contestants against all of Team 2's contestants.  Day 6 will be
for Team 3 and Team 4.  If an entire team has already been eliminated,
then their opponents will not need to show up for this match.

The final day will be the last two winning teams battling each other.
Once there is only one team remaining, the players on that team will
compete with each other for the title of champion.

Individual Battle Rules:
Each player begins with a full set of six Pokémon (which the player will
have determined beforehand).  The player may use two per battle, in
addition to sending out him or herself.  A fainted Pokémon will remain
fainted for the rest of the week.

You can't recall a Pokémon in mid-battle if you intend to continue using
it.  If you do so, the Pokémon you are recalling cannot be used again
during the battle.  There is a strategic element to recalling a Pokémon,
because it is a way to prevent it from fainting.  However, it's extremely
risky because you may lose the battle.  You should only recall a Pokémon
if it is in extremely critical condition and you are certain it will faint.

Applying:
In your e-mail, you must include:

1) Your ICQ Number
2) In order of preference, a list of which of the first four days you want
to compete on.  Each day is a different time, so put the ones that work
for you on the top.
3) In order of preference, a list of the four teams that you want to be
on.  Note that Teams 1 and 2 must compete at a different time on day 5

you in your time zone.
4) The six Pokémon you will be using.  As usual, they do not have to be
actual Pokémon - just about anything can be used.

No spectators will be allowed to watch battles, nor will eliminated
contestants allowed to watch future matches.  The battles will be posted
on Green Version within hours after they take place, so everyone will be
